BFHS Autumn Exchange 2008 - Edinburgh
27th & 28th September 2008
The Dawn Duellists Society are delighted to host the British Federation for Historical Swordplay Autumn Exchange for 2008. This event will take place in Edinburgh at Meadowbank Stadium, home to the 1970 and 1986 Commonwealth Games, over the weekend of 27 and 28 September 2008.
This event will be open to all members of BFHS groups, aged 18 and over, and invited guests.
Workshops
We have now confirmed our provisional line up of instructors of workshops for this year's BFHS Autumn Exchange. They are:
- Greig Watson, Dawn Duellists Society: Capo Ferro Rapier
- Peter Holland, Aisle O'var Backswording Clubbe: George Silver
- Michael Cromarty, Aberdeen Swordsmanship Group: Fiore's Longsword
- James Marwood, Schola Gladatoria: Irish Stick Fighting
- Dave Rawlings, Boars Tooth: i.33
- David Brookhouse, Acadamie Glorianna: Backsword vs Rapier
- Susan Kirk, SSS Leeds, and Rick Peacock, SSS Sheffield: Gordon's Spadroon
- John Hodgson and Craig Healey, SSS Leeds: Italian Sidesword
We are particularly pleased that of the ten instructors, nine will be showing their wares at a BFHS event for the first time. These gentlemen, and lady, represent the next generation of BFHS instructors and we are very happy to be able to give them this opportunity to show what they can do. Some of them may well go on to eclipse the 'usual suspects' we reckon!
Its also very pleasing to see that we can cover such a wide range of weapons and styles and introduce some of the more uncommon systems out there such as Spadroon and Irish Stick fighting. As I am sure you will appreciate, this is a provisional line-up and may be subject to alteration, but we hope it gives you a flavour of what to expect come September.
Other events
This event will not only feature the eight workshops above. There will also be:
- three tournaments: Longsword, Rapier and Sabre/Backsword/Spadroon
- extensive opportunities for freeplay
- informal evening entertainment in one of the best towns in Britain for a night out.
And we are please to also announce for the first time:
- demonstration freeplay by a number of the BFHS finest practitioners.
We shall be issuing our full programme of events and online booking facility in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in September.
In the interim, if you have any queries please contact autumn_exchange@dawnduellists.co.uk.
