Dawn Duellsists AGM 2011
Introduction
The Dawn Duellists AGM is held every year around the end of October or beginning of November. Asides from the actual yearly Society meeting for members on the Friday, we hold a full weekend of historical fencing and martial arts workshops to celebrate our existance. The workshops are open to anyone to attend though, as the
DDS value our clean safety record, only those passed for free-play will be allowed to spar unsupervised or take part in competitions.
We have a great line-up for you this year with some unusual workshops you're not likely to get to experience again for a while, so try not to miss it.

| 19.00 - 21.00 | Dawn Duellists Society Annual General Meeting
All members are welcome and indeed, encouraged, to attend. |
Saturday |
|---|
| 09.30 - 10.00 | Doors Open, Registration & Housekeeping |
| 10.00 - 11.30 | Defense with the umbrella Mr Phil Crawley
Gentlemen and Ladies' defence with an umbrella or parasol according to Messrs. Barton-Wright, Fairbairn & al.
Special Requirements 36" long stick / walking stick / umbrella (preferably with a crook handle). |
| 11.30 - 13.00 | Making the Treatise work - moving from the written word to application Mr Ian MacIntyre
This class is aims to assist all members in making the jump to study groups and how to get more out of the treatise. Taking a treatise little studied at DDS we will explore the process of taking a technique, understanding it, practicing it, refining it and then trying to apply it in a freeplay situation. |
| 13.00 - 14.00 | Luncheon |
| 14.00 - 15.30 | Moves from the movies Jean-Loup Rebours-Smith
Sometimes if it looks good, it doesn't mean it will keep you alive. In this quirky and humourous workshop we'll look at a few moves from 2 classic fencing movies and find out just how efficient those would be in a real duel. The answer will probably not surprise you.
Special requirements Either a short rapier, a light sabre (not the star wars type, that's not the movie we'll be studying), a spadroon or an early smallsword, oh and a good sense of humour |
| 15.30 - 17.00 | An introduction to the Dussack Mr Andrew Taylor
An Introductory workshop in methods and techniques of the Dussack, a German prize playing sword from the Sixteenth to Eighteenth Centuries. The techniques taught are treatise based, and taken from original sources such as Joachim Meyer, Paulus Hector Mair and Sutor.
The Dussack is an ideal introduction to the use of single handed weapons within the German Fechtschule Tradition and provides a good introduction to historical fencing in general.
Dussack or Dussage (meaning double knife) is effectively a wooden Messer or Falchion although some metal examples are in existence. |
| 19.30 | Dinner at The Auld Hoose followed by the traditional AGM quiz. |
Sunday |
|---|
| 14.00 - 17.00 | An afternoon of free-play and tournamenting. the space-hoppers may make an appearance! |

Travel
Edinburgh is served by an international airport, central railway station and coach station with connections from all major cities.
The city itself is easily travelled by taxi, bus and foot, however there is very little parking at the St Stephen's Centre for those of you arriving by car. Parking in Edinburgh is notoriously expensive, limited and well enforced so please take this into account.
Please check parking restrictions around the venue as they are often different on weekends, so parking availability may change on each day of the event.
