We are back with more sparring this Saturday! Guests from other clubs are welcome to join us.

Medals at the Glasgow HEMA Open

Nine DDS members travelled to the GHO to compete in Longsword, Sabre, and Messer.

In Open Longsword Kat, Alyson, Alex and Jack qualified for the eliminations, with Jack making it to the gold medal match before losing to Mark Wilkie.

Due to time constraints the Open Sabre eliminations were reduced to a round of 8, and sadly none of us made the cut despite some strong showings in the pools.

In the Women’s + events, Alyson continued her unbeaten run, again taking gold in Sabre and Longsword!

In Messer Jack made it to the eliminations before losing in a tense match to Connor Kemp-Cowell of the newly formed Caledonian Sword Guild.

Jack and Alyson also picked of the Messer Sportsperson Award and Longsword Technical Prize respectively.

Thanks to Glasgow HEMA for hosting, and all the volunteers and fencers who took part.

Messer Class Continues

With the GHO out of the way our messer class resumes, and I can’t wait to get into all the fun grappling and weapon-taking we have planned for it. James Elmslie’s talk on the development and spread of the messer was fantastic, and has already made me re-examine many of my ideas on this interesting weapon!

Upcoming Events

Next up DDS will be travelling to Herne’s Cup with the rest of Team Scotland, before heading to the first Scottish HEMA intramural tournament, hosted by the IHA in Dundee. Then, attention will turn to the Albion Cup, the London HEMA Open, and the S.L.A.P with Miro Lahtela.
